Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I choose eight supplied cups of brown rice with that PFAS/BPA statement and a basket?
Yes. Brown accepts 2–8 supplied cups, the basket is supplied and the stated declaration applies to food-contact areas.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I cook just one supplied cup of ordinary white rice?
No. The TPC18 White minimum is two supplied cups.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its supplied basket permit food two inches high?
No. The published steam-food height allowance is about 1.5 inches.
Explore this need in the finder →The NS-TPC18 combines a large direct-heating rice pan, a supplied steaming basket and Zojirushi's published PFAS/BPA-free food-contact declaration. It is relevant when you want that exact material configuration and regularly prepare two or more supplied cups of rice. It is less suitable for a household choosing a large cooker mainly for occasional guests while usually cooking one cup.
A specific model-level material declaration
The manufacturer states that areas contacting food or beverages are free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA, as well as BPA. The pan is still described as nonstick. This distinction matters: the claim does not describe an uncoated stainless steel rice pot, and it should not be extended to adjacent TSC models by visual resemblance.
Choose this configuration if that published declaration is a purchasing requirement, while continuing to care for the coating as instructed. Suitable utensils, gentle cleaning and correct pan handling remain part of ownership. Check the exact TPC model code when ordering, since a similar body or neighboring TSC name does not establish the same food-contact materials.
The ten-cup size starts at two
White, Sushi and Quick accept2–10 supplied cups of uncooked short or medium grain white rice. Brown accepts 2–8. The approximately 180 mL supplied rice cup is the measure behind those figures. Ten ordinary US cups are a different quantity, and a ten-cup raw-rice maximum is not a guaranteed cooked yield or serving count.
The two-cup White minimum is especially important when comparing this model with other large Zojirushi cookers. Some ten-cup induction configurations start at one; the TPC18's exact manual starts at two. A small daily load should not be justified by another series' lower minimum. The TPC10 is the more relevant counterpart when one cup is common.
Mixed and Sweet accept2–6 supplied cups. Porridge accepts 0.5–2.5. That smaller porridge minimum applies to a different water-rich dish, not a half-cup ordinary white-rice cycle. Use the menu's grain and water instructions together, particularly when other ingredients occupy space in the pan.
A traditional rice menu with useful extras
The listed programs are White/Sushi, Quick, Mixed, Porridge, Sweet, Brown, Cake and Steam. There is no named Jasmine, GABA Brown, quinoa or steel cut oatmeal selection. A material preference and a grain-menu preference are separate requirements; the TPC18 may answer the first while another configuration better answers the second.
Cake and Steam offer additional prescribed uses. Follow the exact ingredients and cooking instructions rather than treating those labels as approval for arbitrary baking or steaming loads. The machine still has one cooking vessel, so planning a meal with rice and a second dish requires attention to how both will be prepared.
The steaming basket does not scale every limit upward
A steaming basket is included, but the manual's steamed-food height limit remains approximately 1.5 inches. The larger rice pan therefore does not automatically provide the taller steam-food allowance of a QAC18. If the shape of the food is a main reason to choose the larger model, check that exact restriction first.
The basket's presence also does not establish a full-capacity simultaneous rice-and-vegetable recipe. Use an approved method with its stated combined limits when cooking together is essential. Otherwise, treat the Steam program as its own session with the prescribed water and timer settings.
Counter position and serving routine
The closed body is approximately 11.125 inches wide,15 deep and10 high. Open height is about 18.625 inches. Leave space to open the lid, lift the large pan comfortably and let steam escape clear of furniture. The retractable cord helps storage but does not reduce those operating-space needs.
Automatic and extended Keep Warm, reheating and two timer settings suit appropriate rice meals. Observe the manual's individual menu restrictions rather than hold everything simply because the cooker can remain warm. Clean the inner lid, basket, pan and steam components as directed after use.
Who should choose it?
The TPC18 fits repeated larger rice meals with a supplied basket and that exact food-contact declaration. For dedicated quinoa and oatmeal, compare the EAC18. For induction with a taller steam allowance, compare the QAC18. The better choice is the configuration that meets your actual batch, grain and material requirements together.
