Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I choose a named Jasmine program for one cup and receive a steaming basket?
Yes. Jasmine accepts1–5.5 supplied cups and the basket is supplied. Steaming is a separate documented use.
Explore this need in the finder →Will half a supplied cup of ordinary white rice fit?
No. White begins at one supplied cup on the GAC10.
Explore this need in the finder →Does it offer GABA Brown with direct heating?
Yes. Its GABA Brown program supports1–4 supplied cups with direct heating.
Explore this need in the finder →The NL-GAC10 combines direct-heating microcomputer rice cooking with an extended Umami routine, named Jasmine menus, a steaming basket and Slow Cook. It suits someone who wants a more varied meal routine without requiring induction or pressure. Its one-cup white-rice minimum is an important difference from some similarly sized Zojirushi models.
Start at one supplied cup for ordinary rice
White, Umami and Quick accept1–5.5 supplied cups of uncooked short or medium grain white rice. Jasmine and Quick Jasmine have the same range. Brown and GABA Brown accept1–4, as do the mixed-rice and sweet-rice loads. The included cup is approximately 180 mL, so these are dry rice-cup quantities rather than ordinary US measuring cups or cooked bowls.
The porridge and congee programs allow smaller dry amounts. Short or medium grain porridge accepts 0.5–1.5 supplied cups, while Jasmine congee accepts 0.5–1. The fact that porridge can start at half a cup does not lower the plain white-rice minimum. A household whose normal dinner is only half a supplied cup of white rice should compare a model that specifically supports it.
Umami is a scheduling choice
The Umami program extends soaking and steaming compared with the standard rice routine. Its practical appeal is an additional choice for a familiar meal when you have the time. It is not the setting to select automatically when dinner is already late. Named Quick white and Quick Jasmine options address a different time constraint. Learn the appropriate menu for the grain rather than use one convenient button for every bag.
GABA Brown also introduces a longer preparation process. Give that choice sufficient lead time and use its one-to-four-cup brown-rice range. It is useful to separate the recipe you want from the time you have available: an extended brown-rice routine and a quick white-rice supper are different jobs for the same appliance.
A supplied basket and a separate Slow Cook function
The box includes a steaming basket, rice cup, spatula and holder. The Steam function is therefore supported by real equipment, rather than a vague use of the word “steamer.” Plan a steam session using its prescribed water, food placement and timer settings. Do not assume that the full rice maximum and an arbitrary full basket are an approved simultaneous load.
Slow Cook gives a separate menu for suitable soups and other listed dishes. That can be useful when you want one appliance to handle a pot of soup on a day when it is not making rice. It also means choosing which job the cooker will do at a given time. A combined rice-and-soup dinner still needs a plan for the other dish. Follow the exact slow-cook ingredient and loading instructions instead of treating the menu as a general recipe guarantee.
Serving and ownership
Automatic and extended Keep Warm, reheating and the timer controls help organize appropriate plain-rice meals. Mixed foods and other grains have their own restrictions. The presence of a warming function should not be used to justify leaving every dish in the pot. The signal can be changed between melody, beep and silent, which may be useful in a shared kitchen where audible completion signals are distracting.
The inner lid detaches and the power cord is removable. The nonstick pan is 1.5 mm thick according to the current product description. Protect that coating and clean the basket, lid and steam components as required. A black metallic exterior does not imply a bare stainless interior or dishwasher compatibility for every part.
Will it fit your counter and meals?
Closed dimensions are approximately 10.125 inches wide,14.875 deep and8.75 high. The manual gives about 16.75 inches with the lid open. Check depth on a narrow worktop and leave an unobstructed steam path. The GAC10 is a practical candidate for one-cup-and-up rice dinners, Jasmine congee, steaming and occasional slow cooking. The GAC18 increases batch size but raises ordinary rice minimums to two cups. The QAC10 instead adds induction and named quinoa or oatmeal, while the ZCC10 focuses more tightly on rice texture and serving controls.
