A useful fit for

Family-sized grain quantities with saved finish times and a one-to-three-cup limited-express alternative.

The main tradeoff

Ordinary white starts at one cup and brown at two; the 18.3-inch lid-open height needs checking beneath cabinetry.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can six supplied cups of brown rice use the documented GABA process and finish timing?

Yes. Brown GABA permits 2–6 supplied dry cups and finish timing with at least 4 hours 30 minutes of lead. This describes the preparation program, not a medical benefit.

Can half a supplied cup use the ordinary white-rice programs?

No. Their stated minimum is one supplied dry cup. The separate half-cup porridge range does not alter that minimum.

Can the lid open within a sixteen-inch height allowance?

No. Tiger specifies an approximate 18.3-inch height with the lid open, even though the closed body is 9.4in high.

JPW-G18U is the larger member of Tiger's JPW-G induction family. Its ten-cup white-rice maximum is useful for family meals, but the more revealing figures are its one-cup white minimum, two-to-six-cup brown range and separate limits for seasoned rice, porridge and the small-quantity express menu. Choose it for the batches you regularly make, including the smallest.

Size the cooker by your brown and mixed dishes

The supplied dry-rice cup is approximately 180 milliliters, with a level cup of white rice about 150 grams. Plain, Premium, Eco, Sushi, Quick and Long-grain allow one-to-ten cups. Those are uncooked measures; Tiger does not turn them into a fixed cooked yield for every grain and recipe.

Brown and Brown GABA allow two-to-six cups. Adding ingredients to Brown lowers the maximum to four cups, while keeping the two-cup minimum. Mixed rice has a one-to-seven-cup range, Multigrain one-to-eight, and glutinous Sweet rice two-to-five. A family buying this as a ten-cup cooker should check which of those recipes actually fills the weekly menu.

The smaller G10U starts ordinary white rice at half a cup and brown at one. G18U is the more useful choice for six cups of ordinary brown rice, but it is not the better fit for someone who usually wants only a half-cup white or one-cup brown batch.

Express is still a restricted batch

Exp. Limited Cups accepts one-to-three cups in this larger model. The manual lists an indicative 18–28-minute range, with the headline approximately eighteen minutes applying to the minimum quantity under the reference conditions. It does not promise ten cups of rice in eighteen minutes.

Quick supports one-to-ten cups, with a broader 22–48-minute reference range. Both quicker methods can produce firmer rice and neither accepts finish timing or soak timing. If your main requirement is a freshly finished dinner at a known clock time, use an eligible standard menu and enough lead time rather than choosing the quick button.

Premium instead extends absorption and heating, with an indicative 56–73-minute range. Plain is listed at 45–61 minutes. All of these references use 120V power, 73.4°F room temperature and 73.4°F water, with the normal water line. Actual timing varies with the quantity, rice and conditions.

Finish-time memory and soak timing serve different needs

Two clock-based finish times can be saved. Long-grain has its own menu and supports that timer, with a minimum 50-minute lead. Plain needs at least 65 minutes, Premium 75 and Brown GABA four hours thirty. A timer cannot make a long soaking-and-cooking program complete sooner than its required preparation.

The separate soak timer starts cooking after a selected ten-to-sixty-minute absorption period. It does not specify the completion clock time. Mixed, Sweet, Quick, Exp. Limited Cups, Cook·Soup, Cake and Clean are excluded from both timer arrangements. Tiger also limits the advance finish-time setting to twelve hours.

This is a useful distinction from the JAX-T18U, whose documented long-grain route uses the non-timed Quick menu. If long-grain rice and a scheduled finish must coexist, G18U has the clearer dedicated route. It does not include a tacook steaming plate, so that advantage should not be confused with simultaneous plate cooking.

Porridge capacity does not follow the white-rice minimum

For both white and brown porridge, the firm method accepts 0.5–2 cups; soft porridge accepts 0.5–1.5. Firm porridge with ingredients also stops at 1.5 cups. That half-cup porridge minimum does not grant permission for half a cup in the ordinary white-rice program. Use the matching firm or soft water scale.

The Multigrain method is for specified grains with white rice, with added grains no more than 20 percent of the white-rice volume. It is not a general pure-grain program. Brown GABA remains a longer brown-rice process, taking around four hours sixteen to twenty-six minutes in the reference table. A menu name does not establish a particular health outcome.

Allow access and plan the care routine

G18U is approximately 11.3 inches wide, 15.2 deep and 9.4 high, with an 18.3-inch lid-open height. That open height matters under cabinetry even when the closed cooker fits comfortably. The specification is 120V, 60Hz and 1,206 watts; check the exact unit's installation requirements.

The ceramic-coated pot and removable inner lid are hand-wash parts. The manual identifies a fluorocarbon resin coating and prohibits dishwasher cleaning, so ceramic terminology should not be read as a food-contact chemical-free declaration. Clean on the day of use, wipe accessible body surfaces and keep the air openings clear. The Clean program is for prescribed water-based odor removal.

White-rice Keep Warm is automatic, while brown rice and porridge should be served promptly. Reheat requires rice already being kept warm and excludes cold rice below approximately 131°F. G18U fits larger ordinary brown batches and a family needing varied rice menus with eligible finish timing. For consistently smaller dinners choose G10U; for prescribed rice-under-plate meals, compare JBV-S18U.
