A useful fit for

One-cup rice loads and one-to-two-cup combined dinners, with additional menus used in their documented configurations.

The main tradeoff

Finish timing excludes Plain/Synchro-Cooking; soft porridge is limited to a half-cup dry-rice batch.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I require long-grain white rice and finish-timer support for a one-cup batch?

Yes. Quick is the documented long-grain route and supports finish timing, with at least 50 minutes lead time.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can short-grain white rice use that finish-timer arrangement?

No. The manual requires Plain/Synchro-Cooking for short-grain rice, and that program does not support the timer.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I cook two dry rice cups beneath the supplied plate?

Yes. The S10U combined range is one to two supplied cups; use the prescribed plate recipes and remove the plate after cooking.

The Tiger JBV-S10U is the smaller tacook model for someone who wants more than direct Plain and Brown buttons. It adds a display, two stored finish times, a Porridge menu and separately timed steaming. Its strengths are useful only when matched to the correct program: the timer does not operate on Plain/Synchro-Cooking, including the short-grain white-rice method.

A one-cup rice meal, with room to vary the menu

The S10U takes one to 5.5 supplied cups of dry white rice when cooking rice alone. A supplied cup is approximately 180mL; the manual describes a level white-rice cup as about 150g. Use that measure and the matching water markings, rather than a US measuring cup or an estimate of finished servings.

Brown rice has a smaller one-to-3.5-cup range. Mixed or seasoned rice is limited to one to three cups, sweet rice to one to three, and the separate Multigrain program to one to four. The latter is a white-rice-and-grains method with its own preparation instructions, not permission to fill the pot with four cups of any single dry grain. The 5.5-cup headline should stay attached to the white-rice configuration.

Compared with the JBV-A10U, this gives someone who regularly varies breakfast and dinner more explicit choices. The S also offers hard and soft porridge quantities: 0.5–1 cup for hard porridge, but only 0.5 cup for soft porridge. A request for one cup of soft porridge therefore needs a different size or model, even though one cup fits the harder porridge method.

The finish timer has an important boundary

Timer 1 and Timer 2 remember desired completion times, so breakfast and dinner can have different saved settings. They are clock-based finish times, not a choice of “wait this many hours before starting.” Set the present clock accurately and observe the instructions' minimum lead times and maximum delay.

Quick, Porridge, Brown and Multigrain support the timer. Plain/Synchro-Cooking, Mixed•Sweet, Slow Cook and Steam do not. Tiger recommends Quick for long-grain white rice and specifies Plain/Synchro-Cooking for short-grain white rice. Consequently, scheduled long-grain rice and scheduled short-grain rice are not interchangeable requirements on this machine.

This also rules out setting the finish timer for a plate meal simply because the machine has both a timer and tacook. A household expecting rice and a side dish to finish automatically after an unattended delay should choose another documented arrangement. Use the finder to require timer support for the actual cooking method, rather than rely on the general timer feature alone.

What fits beneath the tacook plate

For concurrent rice and suitable side dishes, the S10U supports one to two supplied cups of rice and uses Plain/Synchro-Cooking. Its rice-only maximum of 5.5 cups cannot be carried into that configuration. Someone needing three or four cups under the plate should consider the S18U, while remembering that the larger model starts at two cups for this method.

Use the supplied cookbook's ingredient quantities and loading arrangement. Spread ingredients so steam can reach them, keep liquids and expanding foods within the stated guidance, and do not treat the plate as unlimited extra capacity. The manual notes that ingredients releasing substantial liquid or fat may overflow toward the rice, a practical reason to follow the prescribed dishes and quantities.

Remove the plate after cooking before holding the rice. It will be hot and needs lifting level. Do not leave the side dish sitting inside on Keep Warm or put the plate back after removing it. The combined function helps prepare a meal; it is not an all-day holding system for every component.

More useful control over separate cooking

The independent Steam program can be set in five-minute steps from five to 60 minutes. Slow Cook uses five-minute settings from five to 180 minutes. These are different operations with different loading and water requirements. A user frequently steaming food without rice gets a more explicit timing routine here than on the A10U's shared Slow Cook/Steam button.

The cooker is approximately 10.64 inches wide, 13.91 deep and 8.43 high when closed, according to the exact manual. Leave operating clearance above it and space to remove the plate. The Japan-made S series uses microcomputer-controlled direct heating; it is not an induction or pressure-cooking upgrade.

Who should choose this size

Choose S10U for genuine one-cup rice loads, small plate dinners and its additional porridge or steaming programs. Hand-wash the coated pot, plate and removable parts, clean the steam-control cap and wipe the fixed lid components as instructed. Brown and multigrain cooking are not approved long-holding substitutes for plain white rice. If the essential task is a half-cup brown-rice batch, compare the Zojirushi NS-LGC05; if it is a larger soft-porridge load or four-cup plate meal, compare S18U.
