One-to-four-cup dry rice batches with an included steam tray.

The main tradeoff

One-cup minimum; Flash Rice is a white-rice function, and current ceramic-pot edition should match the purchase.

An eight-cup label with a four-cup dry limit

The Aroma ARC-914SBD is a digital rice and grain multicooker with an included steaming tray. Its headline eight-cup capacity describes the approximate cooked yield. The documented dry-rice range is one to four supplied cups for both white and brown rice, with an approximate yield of two to eight rice cups after cooking. That is the first distinction to make when comparing it with a Zojirushi labelled by uncooked capacity.

The supplied Aroma measuring cup is three quarters of a standard US cup. Using a full US cup of dry rice and then filling to a numbered rice-cup water line changes the recipe. The convenient method is to keep the supplied cup with the cooker, level the dry rice and use the appropriate white or brown water line for that measured amount.

Useful when rice and a steamed side share the counter

The current manufacturer page lists White Rice, Brown Rice, Steam and Flash Rice functions. The included steam tray is a real part of this configuration, rather than an accessory inferred from another model. It makes the ARC-914SBD worth considering for someone who wants rice and occasional steaming from one appliance without moving to a much larger grain cooker.

The separate steaming procedure uses a prescribed water amount and an adjustable steam duration. If you steam while rice cooks underneath, check the combined-cooking instructions and the food’s required doneness rather than assuming every rice load and full tray can finish together. Lifting the tray and lid involves hot water and steam, so the serving routine needs a safe place for those parts.

Flash Rice is a white-rice shortcut

The 2025 linked instructions identify Flash Rice as a white-rice function. They expressly exclude brown rice and other grains from that shortcut. A person who mostly cooks brown rice should choose on the ordinary Brown Rice setting and its batch limits, rather than treating the Flash name as a promise of faster brown-rice meals.

The manual’s approximate white-rice Flash times vary with batch size, from 18–23 minutes for one supplied cup to 27–32 minutes for four. Those are manufacturer estimates, not our stopwatch results. Water temperature, room conditions and the grain can change the routine. The standard brown-rice table is much longer, which is a practical reason to plan brown rice before starting the rest of dinner.

The current pot and manual should match the purchase

The current product page and linked 2025 manual describe a Corecoat ceramic-coated inner pot and removable inner lid. Older ARC-914SBD instructions and listings can show a different operating edition. Check the supplied pot and controls against the documentation in the box; this review does not merge an older pot’s material claims into the current specification.

The cleaning instructions call for washing the pot, accessories, condensation collector and inner lid, wiping the cooker body and drying the parts. Hand washing the pot is recommended to protect its surface. A self-contained cooker still has hidden moisture paths, so cleaning only the bottom of the pan leaves part of the ownership task unfinished.

Scheduling helps, but does not change batch size

The delay timer provides up to 15 hours of advance preparation for eligible rice and grain routines. The linked manual contains wording that needs to be read carefully: its note says the delay includes cooking time even though one numbered step describes heating after the countdown. Treat the exact supplied instructions and manufacturer clarification as the authority for timing a critical meal, rather than relying on a single phrase in a listing.

Automatic Keep Warm is useful for ordinary serving delays, with the manual limiting holding to 12 hours. This does not replace appropriate food handling or make every added ingredient suitable for delayed cooking. Choose the ARC-914SBD for one-to-four-cup dry batches, explicit brown-rice controls and an included tray. Choose a small Micom model if half-cup batches are essential, or the TSC18A when your normal brown-rice batch exceeds four dry cups.
