A useful fit for

Best for one-to-four-cup supplied-measure rice batches when an included pop-up tray, small footprint, and straightforward digital presets are useful.

The main tradeoff

Four uncooked cups is the ceiling, simultaneous steaming shares that ceiling, and the manual contradicts itself about delay-timer finish behavior; exact product-photo bytes remain unavailable.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does eight cups mean eight cups of dry rice?

No. The exact manual calls for one to four supplied cups uncooked white or brown rice, yielding about two to eight cooked cups.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can it cook a four-cup dry batch while steaming suitable food above it?

Yes. The exact manual documents simultaneous steaming up to the four-cup uncooked-rice ceiling; food type and timing still matter.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can its delay control be treated as a definite finish interval?

The manual conflicts: a note says the grain is ready when the entered interval ends, while steps say cooking begins after the delay. The timer exists, but exact finish behavior is not established.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the source establish a combined PFAS/BPA-free declaration for all food-contact parts?

No. The manufacturer describes the ceramic inner pot as PFAS/PFOA-free, but that does not establish the combined all-contact claim.

Will the listed width fit a ten-and-a-half-inch opening?

No. The manufacturer lists 10.88 inches as the width; allow additional clearance for lid and steam.

Eight cups cooked means four cups dry

The Aroma ARC-5004U is an 8-cup-cooked, 2-quart digital rice and grain cooker. Its linked manual makes the capacity basis explicit: one to four supplied rice cups of uncooked white or brown rice, yielding about two to eight cups cooked. Aroma's supplied measure is 180 ml, or three-quarters of a standard U.S. cup. That is a useful correction to the “8-cup” headline. The machine is sized for moderate batches, not eight dry cups for a large gathering. If your normal rice pot is five or more supplied cups uncooked, this exact model is too small; if you often cook less than one supplied cup, its documented range does not establish a smaller batch.

The pop-up steamer is its clearest practical difference

The package includes a rice measure, serving spatula, and a pop-up tray with a ring. The tray can sit inside the pot or stack above it so rice cooks below while suitable food steams on top. Aroma says the tray nests into the cooker for storage, which is a concrete space-saving advantage over a loose accessory that needs its own shelf. The manual permits simultaneous rice cooking and steaming up to the four-cup uncooked rice ceiling, but that is not a promise that every food finishes on the rice cycle. It cautions that delicate foods may overcook and dense foods may need more steaming; check doneness and use the separate Steam function when the food needs its own time. That menu starts at five minutes and can be adjusted in one-minute steps up to thirty. Do not open the lid during the rice cycle to add food: the manual warns that escaping steam or boiling water can burn.

Four named presets, plus a useful grain table

The manual’s control list names White Rice, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, and Steam. It is a straightforward digital interface rather than a broad, pressure-assisted multicooker. In particular, the page’s general “multicooker” label is not evidence of pressure cooking, a dedicated slow-cook setting, or a separate sauté program. Aroma does provide several exact grain methods beyond plain rice: quinoa uses the White Rice function up to four supplied cups; arborio rice uses Steam up to two cups; barley is limited to one cup and requires a four-hour Delay Timer with Brown Rice; bulgur uses Brown Rice up to one cup; and couscous uses White Rice or Steam up to three cups. These are manual methods, not independent cooking tests, so use the listed water ratios and menu instructions rather than assuming every grain can be substituted into the rice line markings.

For ordinary rice, the manual’s estimate for four cups is about 44–49 minutes for white rice and 69–74 minutes for brown. At one cup, it lists about 32–37 minutes and 51–56 minutes respectively. The Oatmeal instructions cap the batch at two supplied cups; they also give different water directions for steel-cut and rolled oats. This menu flexibility can cover breakfasts and a few grains, but the cooker does not document the dedicated GABA, cake, porridge, or multigrain presets that some shoppers may specifically want.

There is a timer, but its exact finish behavior is ambiguous

The product page lists a 15-hour Delay Timer and automatic Keep Warm. The manual lets white rice and oatmeal use a one-to-fifteen-hour setting and brown rice a two-to-fifteen-hour setting. However, the manual’s note says the entered delay includes cooking time and the grain will be ready when it elapses, while the numbered operating steps say cooking begins after the selected delay has elapsed. Those directions conflict. The presence of a timer is established, but whether a particular setting means a ready interval or a wait before heating is not clear enough to promise a finish time. If arriving home to a precisely scheduled rice cycle is essential, do not treat this manual as a clear clock-time guarantee. The manual also says not to leave food on Keep Warm longer than twelve hours.

Compact footprint, coated pot, and real care limits

Aroma lists the closed body at 10.19 inches high by 9.25 inches long by 10.88 inches wide, 4.07 pounds, and 350 watts at 120 volts, 60 Hz. Use 10.88 inches as the conservative horizontal span when checking a counter opening. The published dimensions do not establish the clearance needed above the lid or around the steam vent, so leave working space rather than fitting it tightly under a shelf. The CoreCoat ceramic-coated inner pot is described by Aroma as PFAS- and PFOA-free. That is a manufacturer claim about the pot; the sources do not establish a combined PFAS/BPA-free declaration for every food-contact part. Hand washing the pot is recommended to extend its life, although the manual permits top-rack dishwashing and warns that slight discoloration may occur. Abrasive pads and unsuitable cleaners are out. Aroma states a one-year limited U.S. warranty.

Who should choose it

Choose the ARC-5004U if your regular uncooked batch fits within one to four supplied cups, you will use the pop-up tray, and the small footprint matters more than a large capacity or an unambiguous finish-time control. Choose a larger cooker if you regularly batch beyond four dry cups. A simpler one-touch model may be a better fit if you only want white rice and never use oatmeal, grains, or steaming. If you require a verified all-food-contact PFAS/BPA declaration, pressure cooking, or a clear clock-based schedule, those are not established here. The useful comparison is not an “8-cup” label against another label: check dry capacity, the combined-steaming ceiling, and the exact timer behavior you need.
